WE MAKE SURE THE RIGHT INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE AT THE RIGHT TIME

Working in Data Protection

Join this team and you’ll be helping to make sure we have the right information available to the right people at the right time, to help with investigations and to support our wider policing priorities. This could involve protecting and preserving historical documents or making sure that information that’s of public interest is readily available. This means we use a variety of technologies to store information, including placing data in the cloud to ensure information is always available.

At the same time, we need to make certain this technological progress always complies with information rules and regulations to maintain security and the integrity of the data. It’s interesting, varied and sometimes pressured work that touches every part of the constabulary. Join us and you’ll find a strong team ethos and plenty of opportunity to develop your skills.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks (previously known as CRB, or criminal record checks) for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

DBS also maintains the Adults’ and Children’s Barred Lists, and makes considered decisions as to whether an individual should be included on one or both of these lists and barred from engaging in regulated activity.

Data Protection

Data Protection

Almost every contact we have with the public involves dealing with some sort of personal data and it’s important that we ensure that data is protected.

In this team, we advise, guide and train teams across every department to ensure they’re up-to-date on all the latest data protection requirements.

Central Disclosure Unit

Central Disclosure Unit

A variety of external organisations request our support in processing information they need on a daily basis.

Join this team and you’ll help to process a range of requests, from court orders and child protection requests, to enquiries from a diverse number of regulatory bodies.

Freedom of Information Unit (FOI)

Freedom of Information Unit (FOI)

A lot of the information we hold is subject to Freedom of Information legislation. This means we need to be able to respond quickly and accurately to any legitimate requests to view that information. That’s where this team comes in.

We process all FOI requests from the media, other organisations and members of the public for recorded information that we hold. At the same time, we also process Subject Access (SA) applications from individual members of the public who want to access any personal information we might hold about them.

Optimising Data

Optimising Data

It’s essential that we keep accurate crime and incident data and this team is responsible for reporting on the integrity of that information.

As well as checking that the constabulary keeps robust data, we also continuously look for areas of improvement to ensure we have the highest quality of data to support organisational systems.

Records Management

Records Management

Everything we do is recorded and it’s vital that those records – whether on paper or digital – are managed appropriately.

Join our records management team and you’ll be part of this essential work, helping to ensure that our police records are retained or disposed of according to strict guidelines.

Information Security

Information Security

We hold a lot of very sensitive information, so making sure it’s thoroughly safe and secure is incredibly important. In this team, we work closely with Information Services’ teams to make that happen.

Join us and you could be advising, guiding and monitoring data compliance and security across all our network and systems to keep all our information safe and secure.

Investing in your development

We know that to protect and support our community effectively we need to keep up-to-date with new approaches, processes and technologies. This means that there will always be opportunities for training and professional development. We’ll continuously review your training needs and help succeed in your role. We’ll challenge you to work outside your comfort zone. And we’ll encourage you to grow.

As well as professional training and a range of in-house training opportunities, you can also look forward to plenty of personal support. This might be from your colleagues in the team, new opportunities that become available or through membership of one of our many staff associations.
