Inclusivity | Our inclusive organisation
We know that diversity helps us deliver a service that meets the needs of all our communities
We're committed to our people
We recognise that looking after our people is essential to delivering our purpose of ‘Making Derbyshire Safer Together’. To find effective solutions in the modern world, we need teams from a range of backgrounds, bringing their different thought processes and skills together. That’s why we offer a variety of roles and ways into the organisation. It’s the only way we can deliver a service that understands and meets the needs of all our communities.
To deliver excellent service, we’re dedicated to maximising your unique potential. So, we’re developing our plans for cultural change. The aim is to build a positive workplace that supports each individual to reach their full potential and invests in our leaders at every level.
Our community is incredibly diverse, so we should be, too. That’s why we’re working hard to build an inclusive workforce, where you can be yourself. Whoever you are. Wherever you’re from. We are currently under-represented in a number of areas and recognise that this message needs to reach talented individuals who can add diverse skills and experiences to our organisation.
If you are black or from an ethnic minority, or if you identify as LGBT+, or have a disability, or if you are female and would like to hear more about becoming a police officer and the support we can offer you please contact us.Contact the inclusion team
We embrace our cultural diversity
We police by consent, which means we need to be trusted by all Derbyshire’s communities. That’s why cultural diversity is essential. And it’s why we’re committed to increasing diversity at every rank and grade by attracting and developing people from the widest range of backgrounds.
To reflect the communities we serve, we take a range of positive action measures when we’re recruiting. These aim to take away or reduce barriers that some cultural groups face when they look to work for us. We also support a number of staff support networks for people who are already part of the policing family.
Join us and you’ll need to promote equality and diversity in all you do, every day. And you’ll find our flexible policies and practices meet your individual needs, while supporting our values and ethos.

Our staff support networks
Derbyshire Black Police Association
Our network is open to everyone in Derbyshire Constabulary, regardless of race, ethnicity, role or rank. We offer support, protect individual rights and ensure a fair and equitable service is provided to all. We’re also a visible presence building links and encouraging engagement to improve racial harmony in existing and new black minority ethnic communities.
Derbyshire Constabulary LGBT+ Support Network
The LGBT+ network offers advice and support to all staff, including people who identify as from a lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, GQ, intersex or non-binary community. We’re also open to LGBT+ allies (those not identified as LGBT+, but support those who do). And we openly support equal rights and gender equality and challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
Disability Support Network (enABLE)
Our enABLE network champions and supports people with disabilities, or those who have caring responsibilities. We focus on the ability, not disability, of individuals within the organisation.
The force is committed to a disability confident scheme. If reasonable adjustments are required this will be processed by our HR Services Officers.
We support and advise all officers and staff, female and male, on matters like work-life balance, successful careers and proportional gender representation across rank and grade.
Derbyshire Christian Police Association
We aim to provide an environment of friendship, support and prayer. Whatever your faith, or even if you have no faith, you’re welcome to join us.
Association of Muslim Police
Derbyshire Constabulary’s Association of Muslim Police (AMP) aims to raises awareness and promote equality, diversity and inclusion on initiatives to facilitate better workplace environments for Muslims.
Our network is inclusive to all. We recognise that everyone may need support, advice or guidance at some point in their career, therefore we encourage engagement with those individuals who are supportive of our purpose, principles and priorities
Supporting flexible working
We understand that having a good work life balance is crucial to delivering excellent service. That’s why we’ll always aim to give you options of flexible working, part-time hours or job share. And why we support your maternity and paternity needs and time off for religious beliefs. So, join us and your manager will aim to take your specific needs into account throughout your career.
