Shape the future of policing in Derbyshire

An introduction from our Chief Constable

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Chief Superintendent in Derbyshire Constabulary. I have served as Chief Constable for over two years, having previously served as Derbyshire’s Deputy, and I know we really are a great organisation to work for, and that we have the potential to be one of the very best in the country.

Our people are at the heart of how we deliver our services within Derbyshire. As a member of our Chief Officer team, you will have a key role in ensuring we maintain high standards and deliver a professional service.

My focus as Chief Constable is on delivering a consistently first-rate service to all of our communities – fighting crime, proactively bringing offenders to justice, looking after victims and protecting the vulnerable from harm – these are most of the things that drew us to policing in the first place after all. I am looking for a member of my team who can help me achieve this and also somebody that has the drive, determination and passion to help deliver the improvements we need to make for the benefit of all of the communities of Derbyshire.

Without the support of the people of Derbyshire we simply cannot succeed. You can expect to find yourself working in an organisation that respects our communities and strives to be responsive and receptive to their concerns and needs. I expect that you will have an implicit understanding of the need to deliver highly-valued visible policing to our communities, whilst also tackling the harm caused by less visible, but nevertheless extremely serious, criminality such as modern slavery and the online sexual exploitation of children and other vulnerable persons.

I am passionate about equality, fairness and transparency, both internally and in the services that we deliver. In Derbyshire Constabulary we value each other, the roles we play and the differences that we bring, enabling us to focus upon building a high-level of trust with all of our communities. I expect that you will be passionate about these matters, understanding how we can ensure effective service delivery with our partners and the importance of fulfilling our purpose of making Derbyshire safer together, for everyone.

I am really pleased to be part of the team guiding Derbyshire Constabulary on this exciting journey into the 21st century, and I hope that you will join me and my colleagues in making a real difference for the people of our beautiful County.

Chief Superintendent Vacancy

We’re inviting applications from transferees with strong local policing experience either at the substantive rank of Chief Superintendent, or substantive Superintendents seeking promotion to Chief Superintendent.

We’re looking for senior officers who will be visible change agents in our organisation; who will provide clear direction and support in changing culture and improving performance.

Why Derbyshire? As a force, we have a strong and unequivocal commitment to delivering a high-quality policing service for everyone in the county – whether for our one million residents or our 10 million visitors to the Peak District.

Whilst our urban areas present some policing challenges, Derbyshire is a predominantly rural area, much of it within the Peak District National Park, offering opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle and an enhanced quality of life. Our central location, with excellent transport links, makes us accessible from most areas of the country.

You’ll be working alongside a variety of highly motivated, ambitious and capable people in a forward-looking organisation continually looking to be at the forefront of technological innovation.

By joining us, you’ll play a unique role in helping us to keep Derbyshire as one of the safest places to live and work in England.

Please forward a CV and cover letter (email) to help us understand your skills, experience and ‘fit’ for the post to hrleadershipandtalent@derbyshire.police.uk

The closing date for applications is Monday 6th February and boards are scheduled for Friday 3rd March.

Force priorities

Our over arching priority is to fight crime, proactively bring offenders to justice, and protect the most vulnerable from harm.
In support of this we will:

  • Challenge each other to deliver a consistently good service to the public, that they trust.
  • Be more responsive to the public by building and developing our most visible areas of policing.
  • Look to the long-term, working with the PCC and other partners, to understand and prevent crime, and tackle the root causes of harm, all of which place demands upon our services.
  • Ensure that equality, inclusivity, fairness, and transparency – internally and externally – will drive everything that we do to ensure trust and legitimacy.
  • Support each other, paying special attention to our own mental health and wellbeing.
