We are recruiting Special Constables for vacancies throughout the County.

Our Specials are a vital resource in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in Derbyshire. Special Constables are dedicated individuals who, after a hard day at work in their regular job, still have the enthusiasm and drive it takes to devote some of their free time to help others.

Specials work alongside regular police officers and Police Community Support Officers to help police their local communities. Their position within the force is therefore very much appreciated and invaluable. They play a key role in crime reduction, detection and incident response by adding additional capacity to the services provided by regular officers. By providing a visible uniformed presence, special constables help to reduce the fear of crime and promote confidence within their local communities.

You will be a uniformed volunteer police officer, with the full range of police powers. To the average person in the street, there is nothing to distinguish that these officers are carrying out the role unpaid and in their spare time.

Before applying, please look at our website for more details on the role, guidance on the recruitment process and frequently asked questions.

We are recruiting now to the following course:

  • Course Induction and expected start date is June 2023
  • Our training course incorporates some self-study. Training will take place at our Force Headquarters Training School, Ripley. Further details will be made available which outlines the timetable and training content. Candidates must be available for all of the training dates

Candidates who are successful at National Sift and Application stage will progress to a force assessment centre, expected to take place from 13 February to 6 March 2023.

We are also running two Special Constable Recruitment Webinars to help candidates with their application forms and to answer any queries.

Please see below for the links to register for the event and you will be sent a TEAMS link on the day. Please note that you only need to attend one of the events, not both and registrations close 24 hours before the event.

Best of luck!
