Shape the future of policing in Derbyshire

An introduction from our Chief Constable

Thank you for your interest in becoming deputy chief constable in Derbyshire Constabulary. I have served as chief constable for over two years, having previously served as deputy, and I know we really are a great organisation to work for, and that we have the potential to be one of the very best in the country.

As our deputy chief constable, you will play a vital role in leading improvements to ensure we deliver a consistently good service to the public and one they trust. We can only do this with our staff and officers, and you will be key to ensuring they are motivated, healthy and connected to the force through an inclusive and supportive workforce and creating a shared commitment to delivering to our communities.

I want to deliver a consistently good, trusted service that focuses on fighting crime, proactively bringing offenders to justice, looking after victims and protecting the most vulnerable from harm – these are most of the things that drew us to policing in the first place after all. I am looking for a member of my team who can help me achieve this and also somebody that has the drive, determination and passion to help deliver the improvements we need to make for the benefit of the communities of Derbyshire.

Without the support of the people of Derbyshire we simply cannot succeed. You can expect to find yourself working in an organisation that respects our communities and strives to be responsive and receptive to their concerns and needs. I expect that you will have an implicit understanding of the need to deliver highly valued visible policing to our communities, whilst also tackling the harm caused by less visible, but nevertheless extremely serious, criminality such as modern slavery and the online sexual exploitation of children and other vulnerable persons.

I am passionate about equality, fairness and transparency, both internally and in the services that we deliver.  In Derbyshire Constabulary we value each other, the roles we play and the differences that we bring, enabling us to focus upon building a high-level of trust with all of our communities. I expect that you will be passionate about these matters, understanding how we can ensure effective service delivery with our partners and the importance of fulfilling our purpose of making Derbyshire safer together, for everyone.

I feel extremely privileged to lead Derbyshire Constabulary and to bring improvements in our service. This is challenging but also rewarding when we see the difference it makes to our people and our communities. I hope that you feel that you want to be part of this challenge.
